Cool Ableton routing tips

Author jbone1313

1. If you want to take advantage of Ableton's instruments or if you want to rack plugins in Ableton, put a drone on a different track. On your track with said plugins, in the MIDI From box, choose the drone. Here you get the tight sync with Synfire, plus the ability to use racks and Ableton's instruments.

2. You can put all of your drones inside of one rack, so you only need one track for Synfire's drones. The other tracks can still receive MIDI from specific drones.

This seems to work fine for me. We just need the Ableton muting issue fixed, and we'll be set!

Hey jbone, nice tip about the use of racks. I made a youtube video a while back showing what you describe but without the rack idea.

Hi,

it's sad, but it's not working. what i am doing wrong. the drones work as expected with a loaded plugin, but when i use the midi from feature inside ableton, the channel does not receive a single note.

the video is offline, so i can't figure out, how this works.

can you help me please? because in with the IAC, the latency is horrible.

I'm on Live 9 64bit

thanks a lot!

This is just a guess since I don't use Ableton,

Load a new drone -note the drone number (01, 02, etc) - make sure the drone is set to "remote" or "merged"

Create a new track and load your VSTi in it -

Set the midi in from the new drone to the new track

Save Ableton - and in Synfire set a track to use the new Ableton drone that should now appear.

Save SynFire  (Save Ableton ?) - in Synfire hit play.

I think the drones might be broken. I tried this using 1.7 the other night, and I could not get it to work at all.

Andre - Are the drones not outputting MIDI properly? Can you please give it a try? Simply add a drone to an Ableton track, and then try to route the MIDI from that track to another track. Note: I am not loading any plugins in the drones; I'm just using them to receive and forward MIDI.
