Code of Conduct

In order to preserve the quality and usefulness of this forum for all members, it is necessary for Cognitone to periodically review and revise forum policy. We therefore reserve the right to relocate, abbreviate or remove postings in whole or in part that in our view do not meet current terms of use.

This forum is a private event provided for the benefit of Cognitone and its customers, not a public space. Therefore, absolute ‘freedom of speech’ is limited by these policies facilitating the interests of the majority of members.

We want to expressly emphasize that should you ever be affected by content moderation and/ or other edit, this is by no means a critique against you as a person! It is merely a measure to maintain the focus, clarity and helpfulness of the content of this site. Often a simple reason leads to moderation, e.g. relocation to a more appropriate forum; repair of a dead link, software revision invalidates comment, etc.

Users who are unable to conform their behavior to Cognitone’s forums code of conduct will be warned. Continuing violation of the terms of use can lead to moderation of posting, temporary exclusion of posting, and, in the extreme, permanent expulsion from forum participation.

Nettiquette

So-called ‘Netiquette’ is the commonly accepted foundation for rules of communication on the net. Observation of ‘Netiquette’ is expected and required on Cognitone forums. Specifically and/or additionally, the following rules and expectations also apply.

Uppercase Words

Avoid using all uppercase words in the subject line and body of a posting. This is considered "yelling" and impolite.

Flamewars

Avoid fighting verbal battles about personal views that do not lead to any result. e.g. "Mac is better than PC".

Spam

Any commercial, or misleading and/or unclear posting lacking relevance to this forum will result in immediate deletion of a user account.

Foreign Languages

If English is not your native tongue, please avoid using colloquial language, slang or strong words. What might sound cool and funny in your head, may be confusing, offensive and/or inappropriate for others.

Personal Attacks And Offensive Words

There are many potential causes for misunderstandings arising, which can lead to strong emotional reactions such as excitement, anger and aggression. Even if no direct conflict is involved, a feeling may emerge that one is not appropriately regarded or understood. However, whatever you may currently feel, it is no excuse for using offensive and abusive language. If you do not feel in the position to respond to a conflict or disappointment in a rational and de-escalating way, or do not know how to appropriately express your views in English, then please refrain from responding. You will not only be doing the community a favor, but above all you will be doing this for your own personal benefit and growth as a human being.

Relevance And Usefulness

The majority of visitors use the search function to look up answers for their questions or to find some inspiration. For the benefit of all members, we therefore strive to keep search results as helpful as possible. To do this, we occasionally need to remove postings that no longer reflect the current state of our technology; that may lead to confusion; or, that over a long period of time have remained unanswered. Staff and knowledgeable members are happy to answer questions of a technical nature on the forums as time and interest permits, but support is the ‘official’ avenue for assistance with Cognitone products. Therefore, if you have not received a satisfactory response to your concerns on the forums, please do not hesitate to contact support.

Multiple Posts

Please do not start multiple threads for the same issue. Do not mention the same issue over and over, anew at every opportunity. This is called ‘beating a dead horse.’ The horse no longer minds, of course, but for observers it is tiresome. Setting a link to your own topic is permissible. However, please do not annoy other members through constant repetition.

Frequent Updates

Please be aware that any time you edit or re-edit a post after first saving it, it is again sent to all participants of the discussion via email. So, avoid editing postings you have already submitted. Similarly posting multiple comments in a row is only appropriate in very rare occasions. Please draft longer postings in Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac) and submit them when they are complete. This forum is not a word processor: "Submit" is not the same as "Save".

Hijacking

Do not comment on a new thread, merely with the intent of pushing a personal concern that is not related directly to the current topic. Other members may feel compelled to reply and the discussion then will drift off topic. This is inconsiderate of the original poster. The thread also becomes useless for the search feature. Your own interest is actually thwarted: now your issue is cluttered across many threads and can no longer be linked to and reasonably discussed. You are hurting yourself. We reserve the right to remove ‘off topic’ comments from a thread. Solution: start your own thread.

Soliloquies (Talking to Yourself)

Avoid frequently updating the entire community about what is going on in your head at the moment. If you have something more elaborate to contribute, please summarize your questions, ideas or suggestions for submission at the end of a day. Please do not mix different kinds of questions and topics in the same thread. Escalating musings without clear focus are not read by anyone. In an ongoing discussion, they are perceived as annoying and inconsiderate. If you share or believe you may share such or similar interests with other specific forum members, contact them ‘back channel’ through the member contact link to see if they would like to receive your more immediate reflections.
